The city of Scottsdale is planning to invest $1.4 million in a program called Rental Initiatives Supporting Education (R.I.S.), which will provide rent subsidies and support services to families who are either homeless or at risk of losing their housing. The program will be managed by a nonprofit, with $725,171 expected to help about 25 families over two years. Participants must earn below 50 percent of the area median income and pay between 30 and 40 percent of their adjusted income towards rent, with the program covering the rest. The long-term goal for the program is self-sufficiency.
