A state-drawn shake-up of Texas' congressional lines has resulted in a Democratic showdown between incumbent U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson and former U.N. representative Colin Allred. The remap forced the two North Texas Democrats into the same district and made the primary one of the most closely watched intraparty contests. The outcome in Dallas and other House districts across the state carries implications beyond Texas. Allred, a former three-term congressman from Dallas, returned to the House after dropping out of the 2026 Senate primary. Both candidates campaigned on protecting abortion access, expanding voting rights and challenging Republican policies in Washington.
