Dunleavy asks Trump to allow Ukrainian refugees to remain in Alaska

More than 100 Ukrainian refugees have left Alaska since President Donald Trump discontinued the humanitarian parole program last year, according to refugee advocates in Alaska. The renewed status, seen as a change in the Trump administration's stance, comes after advocacy by Alaska’s all-Republican congressional delegation and a letter from Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy directly to Trump about a potential labor shortage in Alaska and a period of major infrastructure and resource development. Dunlevey stated that the roughly 1,000 Ukrainian refugees currently reside in Alaska represent an immediate and practical solution. However, others are still waiting to hear back on extension applications submitted several months ago.
