Business owner accuses Utah lawmaker of leveraging connections for contracts
Published on April 17, 2026.
Trent Spafford, owner of Enevive, a water filtration company in Pleasant Grove, Utah, alleges that Utah Rep. Trevor Lee used his connections to pursue government contracts while working for a private company. These allegations are denied by Lee, who has served in the Utah House since 2023. Speculation regarding potential government contracts began shortly after Lee joined the company and continued into 2025. Spaffford alleges these discussions were tied to a personal debt he claims Lee owed the company. He alleges that Lee also discussed pursuing two potential contracts, one with a school district in Salt Lake County and another at Hill Air Force Base, which he estimates could be worth $2.4 million. The allegations have not been independently verified.
