The Walnut Creek Downtown Association has proposed a new entertainment zone in downtown Walnut C.C. that would allow established shops to sell alcohol for public consumption during special events. The idea has been successful across the Bay Area, with similar zones established in San Francisco and San Jose. The proposal involves a zone bound by North California Boulevard, Civic Drive, North Broadway and Mt. Diablo Boulevard. The zone would be activated for special one-day events and businesses would need to hold a valid license with the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Department and be in good standing with the agency before registering to participate. Additional events could be held in the zone if the association wishes, and different entertainment zones could be established in other parts of the city if a nonprofit sponsor seeks to establish one.
