Investors are increasingly using BlackRock's bitcoin exchange-traded fund (IBIT), IBIT, to hedge against a wild global economy. The dollar value of open or active IBIT options contracts on Nasdaq, the so-called open interest (OI), was $27.61 billion, slightly higher than the $26.90 billion in Deribit's bitcoin options. This shift indicates that the regulated, institutional-grade bitcoin investment and derivatives infrastructure in the U.S. is no longer second fiddle to the offshore market. This could encourage more Wall Street institutions to explore digital assets and lead to more mature price discovery. The most preferred income-generating strategy involving IBIT and IBIT is the covered call strategy, which allows investors to profit from BTC's implied volatility.
