The recent surge in gasoline prices has reignited political speculation about suspending the federal tax on the fuel, following proposals from high-profile Democrats who propose suspending the 18.3-cent-per-gallon gas tax and 24.3.5-cent diesel tax, which support the nation's Highway Trust Fund.
