The confirmation of a May 26 runoff between Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has raised concerns among Republicans about a scorched-earth campaign that could impact their chances in November's general election. Meanwhile, Democrats are seeing their dream scenario play out, with state Rep. James Talarico emerging as a strong contender to turn Texas blue. However, keeping Cornyn afloat will be costly and potentially damaging Paxton if he ends up being their nominee. In the absence of a Trump endorsement for any candidate, Cornyn has already spent over $100 million to take out Paxton. If he is nominated, Paxton would lose the Senate seat, resulting in losses in five congressional seats. Other high-stakes races include Rep. Tony Gonzales, Rep. Chip Roy, and Rep. Christian Menefee in an uncalled race against Rep. Al Green.
