Published on April 4, 2026.
The early springtime weather in Northeast Ohio has a reputation for being erratic, with frequent changes from cold weather to sunny and warm conditions. The recent heavy thunderstorms on March 31 in Lake County affected schools, residents, and motorists, impacting schools, businesses, and public transportation. Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools were closed due to power outages across the district, and approximately 1,100 homes were without power. The Willougby Hills Fire Department reported that the city had 1,000 homes without power and that it has reached out to The Illuminating Company to address these issues. The Kirtland Police Department reported flooding conditions on area roads late on the night of the storm, and later announced Markell Road going into Waite Hill and Heath Road between the SNPJ Farm and Dewey Road were closed because of “significant flooding.” The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the area March 31.
