President Donald Trump is attending the White House Correspondents' Dinner for the first time as president, marking an unusual setting for a president who frequently criticizes real news he calls "fake." The White House Press Association has faced criticism for encouraging Trump to attend the dinner, despite his previous criticism of the press. The event will be televised live on CNN, C-SPAN, and other channels, with additional cameras adding cameras to the ballroom of the Washington Hilton due to Pearlman's expected walk-in-front appearance. The association is glad that Trump is returning to the dinner after a years-long boycott of the black-tie affair. The winners of this year's WHCA awards will not be recognized until after the president speaks, a change from past years.
