Daunté Fyall, a West African dance teacher at UC San Diego and partner with Encinitas West African Dance, found a social media post about West African dancing offensive. The post, written by Steven Houbeck, was a screenshot of a video of an event held during Black History Month by the Black Student Union at Canyon Crest Academy in the San Dieguito Union High School District. The original post was published in the popular Encinincas Facebook group "Encinitas Insider," where Houbeck is a significant contributor. Fyalls and others have been calling for Houbeck's removal from the city committee he serves on at six separate City Council and committee meetings. The council will consider Houbeck’s dismissal on Wednesday.
