Supreme Court nominee, Vladimir Devens, was grilled at his confirmation hearing for not disclosing his role as a director of a powerful political action committee, "Be Change Now". The committee, funded by the Carpenters Union and unionized contractors, spent millions on local campaigns. Deven's role was not clearly disclosed on his judicial applications. While he was on the board, the committee ran negative campaign ads against candidates. Critics expressed concern that the chief justice has too much power to influence the Supreme Court and the entire state legal system. Despite these issues, Devenes was praised for his work and said he would recuse himself from cases in which he had any prior ties.
