A survey conducted by design and architecture firm Gensler's research wing has found that women feel less safe than men in most major American cities. The survey, which included 13,500 residents, found that while most men and women feel safer in their cities, the gap is as large as 15 percentage points. However, 64% of Columbus women feel "safe" or "very safe" while 59% of men feel the same. The only other city with a lower percentage of men than women was Minneapolis. Researchers are unsure what to make up the anomaly, with theories including a lack of civil trust and social connection from our disconnected, social media-fueled existence.
