Yankees’ Aaron Boone shares early impressions, challenges of new ABS system: ‘I like it a little more’

The Yankees have been among the most aggressive users of the newly implemented automated ball-strike (ABS) challenge system, winning 14 of their 21 challenges, or 66.7%, through eight games. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that challenges can have an emotional impact on players, particularly pitchers. The system allows only hitters, pitchers and catchers to challenge balls and strikes. Despite initial criticism of the system, Boone now likes it a little more. The Yankees' batters had won eight of their 14 challenges, while the Yankees' catcher Austin Wells had won six of seven (85.7%) on defense. Carlos Rodón recently had a successful bullpen session after experiencing tightness in his right hamstring.
