The Yorkville City Council has approved contracts with engineering firm, acoustical consultant, and an engineering consultant to evaluate data center projects for the city. The contracts come as the city continues to develop plans for several different data centers to be established in Yorkville. These developments have faced significant opposition from residents concerned about health, noise, energy usage, and costs. The city has also begun to standardize its evaluation of data centers and has approved regulations specific to data centers. The first contract approved was with Sargent & Lundy, LLC for electrical engineering consulting services for the CyrusOne data center substation project, which costs no more than $149,600. The other contract approved by the council is with Soundscape Engineering for acoustic consulting services, which will provide peer review of developers’ noise studies and field inspections.
