Joel Gratz's weather app, OpenSnow, has seen a 40% increase in business year, despite the struggles of the Colorado ski industry. The company, which does mid-seven-figure annual revenue, began in 2011 and now caters to subscribers who subscribe to the latest in-depth weather updates for their favorite ski hills across the world. Subscribers have tripled in the past five years, and sales have quadrupled during the same period. The increase in revenue was largely driven by a 500% increase of subscription revenue, driven by the surprisingly good 2025-26 outlook. Gratz also introduced a premium tier for the ultimate weather nerd, which he estimates makes up 30% of his new subscribers. The success has allowed him to sustain a full-time, remote staff of 15 and 10 contractors during the winter busy season.
