Rays set for Trop homecoming 561 days in the making

The Tampa Bay Rays are set to reopen Tropicana Field for its first game in 561 days, against the Cubs in their home opener on Monday. The work involved a new-and-improved fiberglass roof designed by the Serge Ferrari Group, a French industrial company. The PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)-coated fiberglass membranes were shipped from Germany to China, sewn into 24 individual panels before being installed in St. Petersburg. The last time the building looked this good was 28 years ago, according to Rays CEO Ken Babby.
