Suspect in fatal shooting of detective 'got run over; he got what he deserved,' sheriff says

The suspect in the fatal shooting of a California sheriff's detective, identified as 59-year-old David Morales, was himself killed during a standoff. The incident occurred when an eviction notice was served at a home in Porterville, which escalated into a shooting. Following the incident, a BearCat armored vehicle operated by the Kern County Sheriff's Office ran over Morales. The officer, identified by sheriff Mike Boudreaux, was shot in the head and identified as Detective Randy Hoppert, a six-year veteran of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff's office expressed shock and deep sadness over the events.
