Tony Johnson was the leader of Herefordshire Council from May 2013 to May 2018, and continued to serve as a councillor until his retirement in 2023. Following his death in May, current leader, Jonathan Lester, described him as widely respected and encouraging. He also oversaw significant changes in the county, including the completion of the Old Market retail and leisure development in 2014.
