The rise in jet fuel prices and the escalating war in Iran have led to airlines increasing baggage fees, with JetBlue Airways the first major carrier to raise the cost of luggage on domestic flights from $35 to $39 and an additional $10 fee for those who wait less than 24 hours before departure to add luggage to their booking. United Airlines followed suit and increased its checked baggage fees from $45 to $45 for those paying for a checked bag for domestic flights ahead of time and $50 for those adding it last-minute. The airline cited “rising operating costs” as the reason for these increases. Two other airlines, American Airlines and Delta, have also warned of potential losses if current jet fuel rates continue at current rates.
