Ride-share drivers in Fresno have endorsed a new California bill, SB 1246, aimed at holding self-driving cars accountable for their interference during an emergency. The bill would ensure that autonomous vehicles are held to the same safety standards as human drivers and would allow them to be fined and create a viable solution to assist in moving disabled vehicles. The regulations include requiring sufficient number of U.S.-based, trained, and California-licensed staff to supervise autonomous vehicles and empowering local governments to issue fines when autonomous vehicles block traffic or interfere with emergency response.
