FIFA, New Jersey Governor point fingers over $100-plus World Cup train tickets

The cost of a train ticket between Penn Station in New York and New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium could reach more than $100 during this summer's World Cup. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill defended the increase, stating she would approve a steep hike if FIFA did not contribute to the costs. FIFA responded by saying they were surprised by New Jersey's approach, noting that the original FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City Agreements required free transportation for fans to all matches and adjusted requirements in 2023 to allow transport at cost. The cost of public transportation to other World Cup venues will also increase.
