Wisconsin job numbers slide as unemployment rises to 3.4%

Wisconsin's unemployment rate rose to 3.4% in February, with the state losing 10,500 non-farm jobs compared to the previous month. Despite these job losses, the construction industry added 800 workers and has grown by 10,200 jobs over the past year. The retail trade sector saw a significant decline, losing 6,600 workers over the last 12 months. Local government employment has decreased, shedding 6,500 jobs in the last year, including 1,800 in February. Despite this, Scott Hodek, chief economist for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, said unemployment remains historically low.
