The D-11 Colorado Springs School of Technology (CSST) in Colorado Springs, a tech-focused high school, had to shut down the use of an AI model due to concerns about its safety and cheating risks. The school had been experimenting with Anthropic's large language model (LLM) to build websites and video games, but was forced to shut it down for student use after it became apparent that Anthropic’s terms of service barred users under age 18 from using the model. CSST is an "innovation school" approved by the state board of education to have more autonomy and flexibility than traditional public schools to experiment with different learning approaches. The district has given the school more leeway to explore AI, and is looking for a work-around to the age restrictions.
