A Lake County police helicopter and police dogs are searching for 18-year-old Rodrigo Montes, a senior at River Forest High School in Lake Station, who was last seen on Sunday night. His family believes he may have been in a vehicle that crashed into the Deep River. The pickup truck was found submerged in the river about 4:20 a.m. Monday morning, with no one inside. The family believed that a friend was dropping him off after a gathering and left the scene after the crash. The search for the missing teen involved multiple agencies, including the Hobart Fire Department’s water/dive rescue team and the Lake Station Police Department. The missing teen's girlfriend, Mila Soto, 18, learned of her boyfriend's whereabouts about 2:30am.
