Rupert Murdoch, a prominent media tycoon for over 70 years, has been worth $22.5 billion after taking over his father's Adelaide-based newspaper, The News, in the 1950s. He rapidly expanded his media empire, including the UK's News of the World and The Sun, and US-based outlets The New York Post and The Times. After Murdoch's retirement in 2023, his son, Lachlan Murdoch, was named as his successor after a high-stakes legal case called the Succession of Rupert Murdoch. The case involved a dramatic battle over the future of Murdoch's companies, Fox Corp. and News Corp. which essentially control all of Murdoch’s assets, was decided after a decision to retain full control over his other children, Prudence, Elisabeth, and James.
