Rep. Eric Swalwell has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault, including a former staffer who alleges he sexually assaulted her twice when she was intoxicated and could not consent. Three other women, including Democratic content creator Ally Sammarco, also came forward alleging sexual misconduct. Despite denying the allegations, many of Swalw's House colleagues and other Democratic California elected officials, including some who had endorsed his bid for governor, do not believe his innocence. California's Democratic Governor, Gavin Newsom, has only issued a one-sentence statement on the allegations. However, both of California’s senators, Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, have called for him to resign from his congressional seat.
