The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Mext) is investigating Doshisha Educational Corporation, the operator of a Kyoto high school, after a student and a boat captain died in a capsizing incident off the coast of Okinawa. The ministry alleges that the school has failed to provide sufficient answers regarding its safety management protocols and the true nature of the trip. The incident, which occurred on March 16, resulted in the deaths of 17-year-old Tomoka Takeishi and captain Hajime Kanai, with over a dozen students thrown into the sea. Despite multiple inquiries from Mext, the school's responses have remained evasive and unsatisfactory.
