Letters for March 23: Kiggans not ‘leading’ on veterans health care issues
Published on March 22, 2026.
U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans has been praised for her efforts to support veterans' health care, but she is not being credited as leading on this issue. She co-sponsored the Protecting Veteran Access to Telemedicine Services Act of 2024, which passed the House with 97% approval. This is not leadership, as veterans won't receive proper health care without adequate clinical staffing. The North Battlefield VA Clinic that opened last April is still about 40% understaffed, and there is a "severe shortage" of doctors and nurses across 35 clinical specialties in the Hampton VA system. Kiggan's efforts to secure $80 million for another South Hampton Roads clinic were questioned as a waste of money. The author also criticizes the use of vaccines against religious groups like the Amish or Russian or Ukrainian Orthodox churches for their stance on vaccines, stating they are not against them. The article also notes that the vaccine schedule from the American Academy of Pediatrics is the most appropriate and safe for the US.
