Laken Snelling, a former University of Kentucky cheerleader, has been re-arrested on a new charge of first-degree manslaughter for suffocating her newborn son. She was released after her father posted her $10,000 bond. The infant's cause of death was determined to be asphyxia by undetermined means. Snelling gave birth to the child in her off-campus house in Lexington on August 27, 2025. Her college roommates discovered the dead newborn in a black plastic bag stuffed in Snelling's closet. After withdrawing from the university, Snelling has since been living at her family's Tennessee home under house arrest.
