The One Big Beautiful Bill, signed by President Donald Trump, has increased border wall construction in Arizona and elsewhere. The money, which is available until 2029, has been allocated to the Border Patrol (CBP) specifically to expand and upgrade "the border infrastructure and wall system." This is more than triple the amount of wall spending in Trump’s first term. CBP has awarded the first round of construction contracts totalling almost $4.5 billion. The only secondary wall construction currently underway in Arizona is the continuation of a project approved during the first Trump administration. Critics argue that expanding projects are ineffective as perception than function. The $60 billion allocated for border-wall construction so far amounts to about five times what it cost the U.S. to build the Panama Canal.
