Free-to-play multiplayer shooter game Highguard is being shut down by developer Wildlight Entertainment, less than two months after its release, due to a rapid player drop. The game was introduced at The Game Awards in December and has since been described as a first-person shooter with lane-skirmish fighting and base raiding mechanics. The developer stated that it was unable to build a sustainable player base to support the game long-term and will shut down servers on March 12. Highguard's player count dropped significantly in February, dropping to just over 400 players a day. Despite acknowledging that the initial showing of the game at the Game Awards didn't properly represent the game, Wildlight plans to continue updating the game.
