Ex-MLB player Daniel Serafini killed his wife Erin Spohr's parents in 2021 and attempted to murder her mother in the same year. His mistress, Samantha Scott, drove him to his in-laws' $3.5 million home in Lake Tahoe, California, before they were arrested. Following the shooting, Serafiini confessed to shooting his mother-in-law twice in the head, but kept this confession a secret until after their arrest. He was found guilty of murdering his father-and-law and attempted murder of his mother in 2025. Despite this, Spohrt stood by Serafino's side during his trial and testified that he did not have a role in the shooting. In the divorce complaint, there were apparent discrepancies in Spohrs' accounts.
