The Walnut Creek Yacht Club, a downtown seafood restaurant in downtown California, is closing after 28 years and plans to replace it with a fish bar. The Ghaben family, a local restaurant group linked to Batch and Brine, is purchasing the property and planning to create the new business as the Oceania Fish Bar. Plans for the expansion of the building at 1555 Bonanza from 3,767 square feet to 6,306 square feet include a 1,360-square-foot addition on the ground floor and a second-floor addition. The new owners plan to replace the existing yacht club with a new fish bar and remove parking, adding outdoor seating, building a new trash enclosure and significant exterior changes. The restaurant opened in 1997 with the concept of a waterfront club to bring the atmosphere of a day on the Bay to landlocked Walnuts Creek. The final service fell on May 7, the anniversary of the yacht club's opening.
