A new Lord of the Rings movie, partly written by Stephen Colbert and his son, Peter Jackson, is in the works. The film, which will reportedly take place after Frodo's death, will explore six chapters of Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring, which were not adapted for the big screen. These chapters largely involve Frodo and the Fellowship being hunted by a Barrow-wight, with the group being saved by Tom Bombadil, who also appeared in The Rings of Power season 2. The movie's logline suggests it will retrace the first steps of the Fellowship, with a "framing device" suggesting flashbacks. The release date for the movie is set for December 17, 2027.
