Concerns about the North Portland Drop-In Center have been raised at a KATU town hall on homelessness, with neighbors and business owners expressing ongoing concerns. St. Johns business owner Lillie Barr, who owns a dispensary across the street from the center, described the impact on her business and surrounding area. She described ongoing concerns such as loitering, camping, drug use on the sidewalk, vandalism, and fires near her business. Business owners have reported 911, 311, and 211, and have invested thousands on security, including new fencing. The center, which operates by Do Good Multnomah, offers basic services such as showering, laundry, and restrooms, case management, and referrals. Program manager Rae Fender acknowledged the challenges outside the facility but said they are doing the best possible to meet the needs of many people.
