Beware of ‘unsettling’ red-flag compliments early in dating, expert warns, as most women agree it’s just ‘love-bombing’ — to get them into bed

A survey by Hily dating app has found that over half of young American women believe that too many compliments early on in dating feels like a red flag. The survey also revealed that half of these women have dismissed a compliment because it made them feel uncomfortable. Julie Nguyen, certified dating coach at Hily, said that when the praise comes on too strong or too fast, it can feel more like projection than truth. Many believe that the compliments are used to create artificial intimacy, which can create a sense of unease where the connection doesn't feel genuine. However, the compliment gap is wide between women and men, with only 28% of men saying that too much compliments early is a red alert. The most unwanted compliment is one that compares them to someone who is fully fully-formed.
