Black Bear Spotted In Bergen County Town, Mayor Warns

A black bear was spotted crossing Churchill Road to Westervelt Place and toward Hillside Avenue, according to Bergen County Mayor John Morgan. The incident occurred without further sightings. Black bears have previously killed people and pets in New Jersey, as recently as May 2024. The state's "Bear Bear Aware" site advises against leaving food out and if attacked, fight back.
