The global cyberattack disrupted the use of the platform, CarmenCanvas, causing a significant disruption to millions of users. The attack was caused by a deliberate act of sabotage against Instructure, the parent company of Canvas. The disruption affected approximately 41% of U.S. higher education institutions, including the University of Michigan and the Ivy League. While the attackers claimed to have stolen 3.65 terabytes of data, there is no evidence that financial information was compromised.
