California could be first state to make law schools teach AI

The State Bar of California’s Committee of ​Bar Examiners is considering adding AI training to the six credits of practice-based competency training for juris doctor students at state-accredited and unaccredited law schools. This change could be finalised as early as next month and apply to California's 25 state-academic and 17 law schools currently accredited by the American Bar Association. The state bar staff has recommended including AI in the practical skills training requirement and adding it to the required professional responsibility course. However, only 45% of respondents in a state bar poll said the state should require courses on the competent use of AI, and 56% said their current curriculum adequately prepared students to use AI.
