Dangerous thunderstorms with heavy rain, damaging winds, and the potential for tornadoes are expected to hit New Jersey on Monday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has warned that the primary threat for these storms remains wind, but the threat for tornado formation is increasing. Parts of Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties are under an "enhanced" risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather, with a 2-4% chance of tornado formation during the storms. Most of New Jersey is under a "somewhend" risk for this severe weather. Forecasters predict that significant storms could be defined by wind gusts of at least 75 mph or EF2 tornados. The weather service also anticipates widespread rainfall totals of a half-inch to 1.5 inches.
