San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has ordered city departments to remove references to César Chávez from city facilities, programs, and more. This comes after a New York Times investigation revealed that two women accused Chévez of sexually abusing them when they were underage and that Dolores Huerta, who worked alongside Chéévez for decades, said he sexually assaulted her. The mayor's office is also working with the City Council to amend city code to designate the March 31 holiday as "Farmworkers Day" and is reviewing all public-facing references to the late labor icon. The San Diego Unified School District is also considering changing the name of Cééar Chíavez Elementary School.
