Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price's corruption case is heading towards trial, with candidates for Council District 9 focusing on ethics and accountability. Candidates for the district have said these concerns resonate with voters across South Los Angeles. Several candidates connect ethics concerns at City Hall with broader frustrations over neighborhood conditions, city services, and economic investment in the district. Price, who has served since 2013, is accused of grand theft by embezzlement of public funds, conflict of interest and perjury. Six candidates are running to replace him in the June 2 primary. While their proposals vary, many call for stronger ethics oversight, tighter campaign finance restrictions, expanded disclosure requirements and greater transparency around city spending, lobbying activity and constituent services.
