Cambodia has deported over 600 Thais allegedly involved in online scams, part of a crackdown on the multibillion-dollar illicit industry. The country has been a hub for crime syndicates operating out of fake romantic relationship and cryptocurrency investment schemes. The global cyberscam industry is estimated to generate annual revenues of up to $64 billion. The deportation of these individuals was made through a border checkpoint and 30 suspects are being processed over alleged criminal offences. The authorities have detained and deported over 13,000 foreign nationals involved in these scams since early last year.
