Long airport security lines have been reported at several U.S. airports this week, raising concerns about unpaid security officers during the government shutdown. Houston's secondary airport experienced the worst problems, with lines lasting over three hours. Other airports including New Orleans and Atlanta also experienced long security lines. The longer TSA officers work without pay during the shutdown, the likelihood some will miss work as they take on second jobs to cover necessities like gas and child care. The TSA and the Airlines for America trade group blamed Democrats for the long lines, blaming their refusal to fund DHS. This current shutdown has only affected the Department of Homeland Security.
