Trump admin considering deploying troops to Iranian shores along Strait of Hormuz, Kharg Island: report

President Trump is reportedly considering deploying thousands of additional US troops to the Middle East, potentially to secure the Strait of Hormuz and Kharg Island in Iran. The possibility of using US troops also has been discussed. However, the deployment of ground forces in Iran is not believed to be imminent. These operations would be risky as they would put US troops within easy reach of Iran's missiles and drones. The Pentagon has reportedly authorized the addition of 5,000 Marines and sailors to Middle East amid Iran's ongoing attacks on oil tankers near the strait.
