A new tool in development by OpenAI, Anthropic, is being used to identify violent extremists on ChatGPT and provide support for them through chatbot-based deradicalisation support. The company is in discussions with The Christchurch ⁠Call, an initiative to combat online hate, and ThroughLine, an anti-extremism group. The tool would likely be a hybrid model combining a chatbot trained to respond to people who show signs of extremism and referrals to real-world mental health services. The technology is currently being tested but no date has been set for release.
