American Airlines passengers Peter and Mary Jane Williams have filed two separate civil complaints alleging that a dispute over carry-on luggage escalated after police were called on a customer at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The couple, who were traveling from Evansville, Ind., to Phoenix with a layover in Texas, claim they had valid tickets and boarding passes for all segments of their trip and were denied boarding due to one of Mary Jane's bags being too big for a carry-out. American Airlines allegedly summoned DFW Airport Police to the gate and jetway, leading to Peter being violently restrained and taser deployment. The couple is accusing American Airlines of eight separate counts, including negligence, negligent training and defamation. They are seeking damages for medical expenses, lost wages, reputational harm, and other damages.
