The myth that carrots are beneficial for eyesight and night vision is still prevalent, despite the fact that most people currently consume enough of the vitamin A in their daily diet. The British government used this myth during the Blitz to convince citizens and the wider world that eating carrots improved eyesight. However, research has found that consuming more of this vitamin A via supplements can be detrimental to health. This article discusses the origins of the myth and how the Ministry of Information and Ministry of Food spread this propaganda.
