The use of artificial intelligence to plan trips is increasing, with about 91% of global travelers relying on AI travel planners, according to a survey by travel platform Klook. However, trust remains a significant issue, with only 35% fully trusting its outcomes. The accuracy of AI tools, built around large language models, can lead to hallucinations, where false information is presented as fact. Industry experts suggest that AI may also influence which destinations travelers see, particularly smaller businesses may struggle due to lack of expertise or digital presence. However they are hopeful about their utility as more companies become more integrated with AI. Guy Llewellyn, assistant professor at EHL Hospitality Business School Singapore, predicts that the digitization of information will continue to proliferate. Despite the information gaps and overall hallucinations, the hospitality industry is pressing ahead with the rollout of more smart tools.
